Well, let me see what did I do this past week…
First of all, I’m not weighing in this week. I stepped on the scale a few days ago and I was thrilled with the results. But as far as that goes, my main focus here isn’t about losing the weight. I know if I continue to get up and move on the commercial breaks… and work out on a regular basis, the weight will come off. After giving it some consideration, I have decided to weigh in on the first Tuesday of each month.
For the most part I stuck with my plan. I’ve cut out most white foods. White flour, meaning soft white bread sandwiches are off the list, white pasta is off the list, and most anything from the bakery is off the list. But I found some good whole wheat and nut bread I like. That is one trade off I enjoy! Whole wheat pasta… well, I’m not so hooked on it, but I’m willing to try out different varieties. Surely there will be one I like.
I didn’t stick with the no white rice this week. We had take out teriyaki one night. I didn’t have the extra sauce, but I did eat about half the rice served with my meal. As far as the soda… okay. One day I had soda. Why? It wasn’t even that great. Diet Dr. Pepper just doesn’t do it for me. I don’t think that will be a problem in the future. Now, regular Pepsi, Mt. Dew, or Dr Pepper might be a problem, but not the diet stuff.
I’ve done got up and moved… and that’s my main goal. I feel good about my first week!
Week #2 goals:
-
ZERO soda
-
Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
-
Cut out the white stuff… sugar, white flour, white rice, white potatoes
-
Enjoy the exercise! 30 minutes 3x this week added to my regular commercial breaks!
Okay, I’m off! I hope to visit several of my fellow challengers! I love the encouragement I’ve received so far, not only here on my own blog, but I’m talking about the encouragement I have received from reading your posts. You are all so amazing to me! Thanks!

glad you had a great week this week! I think its really positive that you are focusing on other things than just the scale. Also, cutting out the white foods always helps. I also dont eat many white foods.
as far as whole wheat pasta, I found that whole wheat angel hair cooks up real good. not crunchy or has a differnet taste to it. Fuselli also cooks up really well too.

Different whole wheat pastas do taste different … don’t give up! I love whole wheat pasta with a spicy red sauce. Yum.
Hooray for goal setting. It sounds like you’re doing very well.

Excellent week! We don’t have to be perfect; success in the continued efforts.
For the whole wheat pasta, a friend has suggested that I start out mixing whole wheat and white ,and then slowly thinning out the white. She did that with her kids’ meals, and they never noticed.

I think cutting out the white carbs is the easiest, because there are great healthy alternatives (sweet potatoes, whole wheat pasta or Barilla brand pastas - I use this all the time for kids).
Good luck on your 2nd week.

You’re doing great! I also try to avoid white carbs, it gets easier as I keep on finding things I like better (sweet potatoes, brown rice, wholegrain bread)

Great job. I’ve switched most of our “White” carbs to wheat. I thought the wheat pasta wasn’t as noticeable, but my husband is not a fan. Our big achievement is using brown rice more often than white. I haven’t been able to give up the white rice, but I work at buying one brown and white package at a time. This past grocery shopping I had to buy brown rice, but we had plenty of white left at home!!! NSV for our family.
Way to keep moving.

Great way to get extra exercise in! You know I cut out nearly all of the white stuff too, I can’t even eat white bread anymore it tastes raw and doughy to me. I actually prefer brown rice now and there are so many wonderful wheat pastas I’m never without a healthy grain option.
I love that you are changing a few things at a time, I really think thats the best way to make them long term habits.

Thank you to each and every one of you for all the encouragement! I love the challenge… the support group here online!
Now I’m curious about the brown rice. I have questions! I wonder, does it cook up the same as white rice? Is brown rice and wild rice the same? I’m realizing I like the textures in my food… and that’s why I love the whole grain breads. Oh and the nuts in the whole grain bread is another wonderful layer of texture. Mmmmm!
I’m making the rounds to the blogs… if I haven’t posted on yours, I apologize. I’ll be making more blog rounds later in the weekend.
Thanks again, for all the wonderful encouragement!
