Thank you for sharing your experience with Atkins. Although Atkins had the right concept, I think he totally blew it when he took out the complex carbs in the first 2 weeks of the diet.
You are doing well with this new plan of complex carbs (fruit and veg.) lean proteins, and staying away from the refined carbs (sugar, white flour) and exercise. I do a similar plan as you described and have lost 90 pounds and have maintained it over the last 10 years. It is much healthier than Atkins.

Portion control, planning your meals, grocery shopping and looking at this as a lifestyle change instead of a diet is what has kept me living this way for the last 10 years and I love it. You are doing fantastic. Please keep us posted of your progress.

Just cutting out starchy carbohydrates might be the best solution. Keep eating fresh fruit and veggies and have some protein at every meal. You don't need large amounts of protein, just some regularly.

Never tried Atkins myself, it seemed a little too extreme. But then again, I have done 2-3 week periods that have been nearly as strict as Atkin's induction... perhaps in some cases worse, because fats were limited. I had no health issues though and generally felt OK, except for some headaches while my body switched over.

Everyone has a different body, you have to find what works for you. There is NOTHING wrong with just plain old moderation!

I have tried so many diet programs without success and nearly gave up, and then I bought and tried Fat Loss for Idiots. It is a no-nonsense approach that really worked for me!

atkins is such an odd one.

PERFECT for some people and, as much as the Atkins peeps beg to differ, harmful to others.

I liked Atkins (lost and gained 90 lbs several times on it lol) but its not a long term solution. I still eat low carb when I can and always feel much better. Glad you figured out it wasnt working for you and are moving on to something that I am sure will!!

Best wishes to you! YOU CAN DO IT!!

Have a WONDERFUL day!
